Getting Started 👀
-
At our studio, we have three classes specific to beginners: House, Hip Hop, and Locking. These classes strictly focus on the fundamentals of these particular dance forms, with an emphasis on building proficiency.
In addition, we have Open-Level classes which are open to ALL levels. They are more challenging, but if you’re feeling confident, they are a great way to start deepening your knowledge!
-
You can expect to learn the history of different dance forms and cultures, traditional steps and practices of those cultures, and how to express yourself through dance and movement.
-
We highly recommend wearing clothes that you feel comfortable in, that allow you to move freely, and that are respectful of your peers (e.g., sweatpants, t-shirts, tennis shoes, athletic shorts).
Some street dance cultures have their own sense of fashion that helps with expressing yourself more!
-
We encourage you to bring water, a small snack, comfortable clothes, and a towel. There is no water fountain, but we do have a vending machine!
-
Sessions (short for Practice Sessions) are curated environments to practice what you’ve learned. There is no designated teacher, but you can dance/learn from anyone! Sessions are the best way to connect with other members of the dance community.
During a session, you can choose to join a cypher—a group of dancers forming a circle to share movement and energy—or dance by yourself.
All Rhythmhood Sessions are free and do not require registration!
