Rhythmhood FAQ: The Essentials
Getting Started
👀
-
At our studio, we have three classes specific to beginners: House, Hip Hop, and Locking. These classes strictly focus on the fundamentals of these particular dance forms, with an emphasis on building proficiency. All other classes where the level is not specified are considered Open-Level classes. Open-Level classes can also be great for beginners to receive a more general learning experience with information applicable to multiple levels of experience.
-
You can expect to learn the history of different dance forms and cultures, traditional steps and practices of those cultures, and how to express yourself through dance and movement.
-
We highly recommend wearing clothes that you feel comfortable in, that allow you to move freely, and that are respectful of your peers (e.g., sweatpants, t-shirts, tennis shoes, athletic shorts).
Some street dance cultures have their own sense of fashion that helps with expressing yourself more!
-
We encourage you to bring water, a small snack, comfortable clothes, and a towel. There is no water fountain, but we do have a vending machine!
-
A class is where you receive guided instruction on key elements related to a specific subject. You’ll typically learn from one or two instructors who will provide material for you to practice on your own. Our classes are $16 each, and you can register on our Classes & Sessions page.
Sessions (short for Practice Sessions) are curated environments designed for practicing what you’ve learned and connecting with other members of the dance community. Sessions may be open to all dancers or focused on a specific style of music or dance. During a session, you can choose to join a cypher—a group of dancers forming a circle to share movement and energy—or dance by yourself. All Rhythmhood Sessions are free of charge and do not require registration.

Once purchased, you will receive a unique coupon code which can be used when registering for classes. You can either schedule all your classes in advance or tell the front desk attendant to apply your class credit whenever you drop in to the studio!
Each class pass has a different expiration date:
The 5-Class Pass expires 1 month after purchase.
The 10-Class Pass expires 1.5 months after purchase.
The 15-Class Pass expires 2 months after purchase.
We recommend purchasing a class pass on the day you plan to take class.

Our beginner program classes follow a cyclical 12-week curriculum focused on the fundamentals and foundational elements of each dance style. Each week covers a specific aspect of the style's technique and culture. By the end of the 12 weeks, students can expect to gain a well-rounded, base-level understanding of the style and its culture.
Classes outside of the beginner program are not guaranteed to follow a cyclical or linear curriculum.
Registration for the next cycle will open two weeks before the current 12-week program ends.
Please note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes once the program begins. However, students may apply missed class credit to a class during the same week of the next cycle or to another class on our weekly schedule. To request credit transfers, please email: rhythmhood@rhythmhood.com.
