Community
is at the heart
of our movement
Rhythmhood, founded by Lam ‘Sedechu’ Nguyen in 2016, is an organization dedicated to the preservation of Street Dance Culture. Rhythmhood looks to serve as a reliable and authentic resource for dancers in Chicago by providing opportunities for safe communal gathering, educational programming, dance training, and professional development.
This message is apparent through the opening of RhythmhoodxSNIPES Studio, where students can safely gather to receive education and training in nine street and club style dance forms and cultures. Rhythmhood's mission is to nurture and grow Chicago's street-style dance community, uplift and empower dancers, and transform Chicago into an international hub for street dance.
Rhythmhood’s Commitment to Safety & Inclusion
At Rhythmhood, we are deeply committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for each and every individual who walks through our doors. It is our utmost goal to create an environment where everyone–regardless of gender, background, or experience– feels valued, respected, and free to express themselves through dance without fear of discrimination, harassment, or harm. Through open communication, mutual respect, and clear safety protocols, we strive to build a community where diversity is celebrated, safety is ensured and every voice is heard.
Rhythmhood’s Role in the Community
At Rhythmhood, community is at the heart of everything we do. Since 2016, we’ve proudly hosted over 250 events—from battles and workshops to parties and dance sessions—bringing people together to celebrate creativity, culture, and connection. Through cornerstone events like the SNIPES Cypher Series, Windy City Throwdown, and Hip-Hop in Chinatown, we’ve built platforms for dancers of all backgrounds to showcase their talent, learn from legends, and push the boundaries of their craft.
Our commitment to cultivating a supportive and inclusive dance community is reflected in our partnerships with programs like Chicago Footworkology, REVEAL Dance Experience, Red Bull Dance Your Style, and King of Kingz. We’ve also hosted high-impact masterclasses led by some of street dance’s most influential pioneers—Loose Joint, King Charles, JustSole, LumiSOW, and E Solo—giving dancers direct access to world-class instruction and invaluable inspiration. With over 1,100 students impacted through our classes since January 2024 alone, Rhythmhood remains a thriving hub where dancers grow, connect, and ignite change.
Rhythm Kidz is a Freestyle Hip Hop Crew based in Chicago, IL. Established in 2016, Rhythm Kidz was born by the union of three international dancers, connecting through their need for community and shared love for Hip Hop Culture. These dancers are Lam ‘Sedechu’ Nguyen of Vietnam, Tatiana Dmytruk of Ukraine, and Jonny ‘Loco’ of Germany. Their passion and influence spread, attracting new members looking for a family. In addition to Lam and Jonny, active crew members are Jason “Kisoo” Kim, Kien Tran, Erica Cedasero, and Brien “B.” Parish. The crew has been fundamental in developing the Chicago Hip Hop Dance Community through teaching, competing locally/nationally, and event organization.
